Since entering higher education practice in 1988 I have tried to improve the undergraduate experience by promoting equity through leadership, scholarship, and policy. Across my career I have focused on LGBTQ students, mixed race students, women’s higher education around the world, and low-income student success. My administrative career began in student affairs, took a hiatus while I moved into faculty, and re-started in a hybrid scholar-practitioner format as I took up leadership for student success efforts at Michigan State. I currently serve as Mildred B. Erickson Distinguished Chair and Professor of Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education (88%) and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies for Student Success Research (12%).
